Hello

Collected in August in eastern France. Size 4 mm
I find Gymnosoma inornatum, but I do not have genitalia drawings to check.

Inornatum and costatum are very similar.

It seems, the dust pattern on thoracic dorsum is like nudifrons (opposted to rotundatum). Is that correct ? That would suggest costatum s.s.
the shape of the black spots on tergites suggests costatum as well.

With the Tschorsnig key, I arrived easily at costatum. And with Cerretti's key, I doubted because I do not know this species.

It's Gymnosoma costatum.
Thank you

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
