Photographed a few miles north of Bergen,Norway today.

Is it possible to get an ID on this fly? I think it looks like the genus Bibio. Is it a chance that this could be a Bibio lepidus?

Yes, it is Bibio clavipes or longipes (= lepidus).
The specimen looks extremely fresh, is that correct ?

Thanks a lot for the answer, Theo.

I´m agree wit you. This specimen looks like it is not older than a few days. Is it very late of the year for this fly?
When I read more description of B.clavipes and B.longipes, it looks like mine are female B.clavipes. If I have understood it right, B.longipes has more transparent wings and the pterostigma are darker and more distinct than B.clavipes. Both sexes of B.longipes have black legs, but female B.clavipes can have brown legs. Am I totally wrong here, or have I understood i right?

The pterostigma is too small, even for a clavipes. The reason is that it seems to be incompletely pigmented. There is white, not transparency, where there should have been black. On both sides of the vein.
Hence, it looks like this is longipes after all....

The colouration is not reliable, see my review in Entomologische Berichten.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
