Berlin - September - 2.3 mm (3.4mm including wings) I am always busy and I have no time to put it under the microscope today or to try keys to a family. I'm hoping that someone here can recognize a family for this fly. Thank you for your Time and Effort. johnes81 attached the following image: [55.09Kb] Edited by johnes81 on 23-09-2017 00:48 John and Nini. Naturalists not experts. |

Thank You Sir Stephane, you have saved me alot of time because I didn't even think about this family. This species will be my first recorded Drosophilidae species, so I lack the experience to even recognize this group. Now I will have to find some keys and genitalia when I have the time to do so. I forgot to mention that it was found in my kitchen. I wish for all to have a Pleasant Evening/Night. John and Nini. Naturalists not experts. |

I have been searching for keys and genitalia and I have found a few decent resources. I think that this is possibly one of the common Drosophila species, id est, D. melanogaster or D. funebris. I'm not trying to key it yet but I am just reading about them. I got a bit concerned because someone states that the female of D. melanogaster cannot be separated from the female of D. simulans. I had to give it a quick look under the microscope to see if it is a female. I am happy to say that this is a male. I see the comb very well even in my macro photos. I will try to examine and dissect it sometime this weekend. Thanks alot Sir Stephane. johnes81 attached the following image: [60.06Kb] Edited by johnes81 on 23-09-2017 00:55 John and Nini.
