Hello,

this Cylindromyia is from August 5 from near Mölten in Südtirol (Alto Adige, Italia) on about 1000m. I tried the key, but I have diffulties to understand it. Is it possible to recognize the species? Perhaps C. intermedia or C. auriceps? Body length ist 6mm.

Thanks,
Michael

No, it isn't. It is a Clairvillia sp. Have a look at the apex of abdomen !
Can we get a close-up ?

Colour of palpus ?

Thank you for the quick correction. Here are some pictures of the abdominal apex an the mouth parts. I hope the quality is enough to see something.

Is there another possibility than Clairvillia biguttata? According to the Fauna Europaea there is only one other species, C. pninae, which seems to be of mediterranean distribution, and is perhaps not found in the alps.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
