Due to circumstances beyond my control I was unable to get to Bulgaria last year so even more delighted that I was able to do so again this year. As always the flora and insects were superb. This Tephritid was found at Kirilova Polyanna meadows on 21 July 2017.

I would be very grateful if anyone is able to suggest an identification

Many thanks

Alan

Oxyna flavipennis seems to fit the bill according to the pics in the Gallery.

Many thanks Roger. I had thought it might be that and clearly for once should have had the courage of my conviction!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
