looks to be a Villa sp. I have no knowledge of many Spanish Villa. edit: positive Anthracinae but I will try to eliminate Anthrax. I will search for better descriptions of Villa and Anthrax from Spain. Edited by johnes81 on 06-08-2017 01:24 |

I stand by my opinion that it is a Villa species. I think that it matches the description of Villa cingulum in Meigen 1820. I cannot find descriptions for Villa cebalosi and Villa fasciculata. But I doubt that it is either one of these. I will say Villa cf. cingulum. maybe someone else has a different opinion? I am a bit jealous of your photo very nice photo of a rarely photographed Villa. edit: I only state cf (confer) because I prefer genitalia for a 100% identification. I certainly label this as Villa cingulum in my own work. I strive to be a Bombyliidae expert someday I need several years before I can reach such a level of expertise. Until then, I recommend cf for now. Edited by johnes81 on 07-08-2017 16:44 |
