I'm not familiar with Cylindromyia and this inexperience creates doubt. I have read some keys for the Central European species but I am hoping that an expert can weigh-in.

I see that apical scutellars are present. I count two pairs of scutellar bristles.
I see that the hind tibia has two posteroventral bristles.
The species measures 8mm.

I am thinking that it should be Cylindromyia auriceps.
confirmation?

I can make more photos. I have the specimen.

I've looked at the keys from Tschorsnig und Herting for this one.
I apologize for my sloppy post with incorrect data.

Following Tschorsnig, I determine this specimen to be auriceps. The discal bristles are the determining factor.

hind tibia without pv bristle:
bicolor, brevicornis, pilipes, rufifrons, xylotina

hind tibia with pv bristle, without apical scutellar bristles:
interrupta, pusilla

hind tibia with pv bristle, with apical scutellar bristles:
auriceps, intermedia

intermedia is supposed to be missing median discal bristles.

Thank You for your time.

There is no need to apologize. Cylindromyia are tricky and your ID is totally correct !

Thank You very much for confirmation. I value your expertise and Time.

Yes. Cylindromyia are tricky. I have discovered that much care is required for determination.

If you need a photo for the gallery, then let me know.
I do not mind granting permission for exclusive display at diptera.info.

I wish for you a Wonderful Day. Thanks Again Smile

the photo in this thread? I just slapped it together for this post. I made a studio photo for the gallery instead. I have no problem with diptera.info using the one above too.

I wil attach the studio photo here for you to look at.
If you need a photo for this species, then I grant permission for the display of the image at diptera.info gallery.

Have a Great Day.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
