Hi,
I found large clusters of flies resembling tiny Bibionidae. I got stuck.
They were sitting on Rumex leaves. May 31st, Schenefeld northern germany.
Best Regards,
Jan

Hi,
I did not collect any then unfortunately, but I kept looking for more of these flies. Finally I found some on a Leucanthemum flower. This time I collected a few, crushing some more Sad
Since I found them only two weeks later and 100m from the last guys they might be the same species. The cluster on the flower was much smaller than the one on the Rumex, yet quite a considerable number of small flies.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
