R. notatus with such extensive yellow on legs and tip of abdomen, Theo? Why not R. vitripennis?

My impression is the same: Rhagio vitripennis.

The anterior margin of the wing outside the stigma is not darkened, hence, it cannot be vitripennis.

To be honest, two points
* colouration of Rhagio sp. is highly variable, in my experience.
* I have no good knowledge of the fauna of the Balkans.

The yellow first tergite is indeed highly atypical for notatus.

Thank you Libor and Theo Smile
So it is more likely to be Rhagio vitripennis ?

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
