I found this fly in Szeged, S. Hungary, on 02.06.2012. I think it is a Bombylisoma minimum male. Can somone confirm (or correct) this ID?
Thanks in advance!
Henrik

Because of the characteristic wing venation, I am fairly confident about the genus Bombylisoma. The reasons I think it is B. minimum are the presence of some long, dark hairs on the abdomen and two bunches of golden-yellow hairs right under the eyes. I would appreciate any opinion!

Hi, Henrik

I am not an expert, but as nobody comments, I am going to do it as I am at the moment completely obsessed with Bombyliids Wink

Totally agree with Bombylisoma Smile Although I don't know the Bombyliids present in Hungary, I am pretty sure the genus is right TumbsUp

About the species, obviosly it isn't any of the ones I recognize for sure (melanocephalum, nigriceps and notatum). It fits with minimum but unfortunately I haven't any experience with the other species and I cannot garantee that the ID is correct Sad

But at least you know now that somebody else agrees with your ID, although it cannot be confirmed Wink

Best

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
