Saw this beastie alongside a creek in NSW. It was seriously big, like more than 3 cm long. sorry for the poor quality of the photograph, it was at quite a distance. Could someone kindly ID it ?

It is a robberfly, Asilidae, possibly Asilus crabroniformis. But I am not a robberfly specialist.

No, impossible, I didn't see the location, so I thouht it was taken in the UK. BTW, seriously I have never seen an alive Asilus myself.

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
