Hi I have caught a Parydra species; I hope it is possible to ID this from picture? I also have a similar one, but a lot larger, and without wing markings. What to look for, for identification? Thank you jonas |

Sorry - 2 species in one post... This is the bigger one (4,7 mm) Its a male (big genitalia!) Both caught in belgium, in reedland. With 5 dc, I assume Paracoenia.. Or also Parydra? I don't know much about Ephydridae... |

The Parydra looks like coarctata as far as I can see. The other specimen looks like Ephydra

The first fly with darkened fork on wing and completely darkened mcu - why coarctata not quadripunctata? |

Looking at the pictures again - I stand corrected - quadripunctata is much more likely. I have seen coarctata with quite darkened cross-vein and appendix, but not as much as in this specimen. My thanks to Cranefly for her correction!
