 Polyporivora ornata?

I think this one belongs to the species Polyporivora ornata because I have an identified specimen from this species from this same locality and date (which could or not be the same one from the photo, I don't recall) and because if this was P. picta it would have to have yellowish wings. I am not sure, Rui, but possibly you are right. For me there are not enough details visible and I am not familiar enough to say something with certainty just by the look of it. Indeed picta has wings with membrane yellowish. ruud van der weele rvanderweele@gmail.com |

Thanks again! It was just published by Martin Ebejer and myself an article giving the first records of this family for the Portuguese mainland. This series of threads that I posted here recently was just to confirm if I had the photos correctly identified. 10 species were published from the three subfamilies. |

I am sorry to say this, but this could be P. ornata as well as P. boletina. They differ in coloration of pedicel and in number of npl bristles, which are not clearly visible from this picture. I have to say in this place, that determination of males Platypezidae is not so easy as it could seems and I recommend to always use a comparative collection or do a revision of material by some specialist. The genitalic structure is good to investigate to be sure. I am really interested of your paper and I am looking forward to it. Yes and you are true, this is not picta, because of the wing color. Thank you! All the material in the paper was identified based on specimens and not the photos, so there is no problem. Since I'm nor sure if I collected this specimen in particular I was just trying to confirm its identity. P. boletina was not yet found in any location mentioned in the paper. I will send the paper to you. |
