Could someone please advise me if I have identified this correctly. I was given this ID with the caution that it needs to be verified by expert opinion.

Difficult to be certain, but the yellowish shine over the wings indicates P. picta.

Thank you Paul. I have looked up Polyporivora picta but the images I have seen look nothing like the one I have posted. I am new to this (as I have said before) and may have mis-understood your message.
Kind regards

The pictures in the Gallery for this species are all females and the species in this genus are highly sexually dimorphic. This would be a good addition to the Gallery.

Hi Peter,

I think what Paul is saying is this is a male of Polyporivora picta and as there are only pics of females in the Gallery for this species he would like you to add it to the Gallery. Well done!

Please tell me Paul if I am wrong.Wink

Thank you again Paul. I have tried to upload the image several times and failed on each occasion. I had difficulty getting it to be less than 150K and only achieved that by cropping to 600px width with compression at 65%. The last failure complained that I was using an invalid file name. The file itself is a jpg file exported from lightroomFrown
Kind regards

Make certain there are no spaces in the file name and not odd characters like @ and #. If neither of these appears to be the cause of the failure, open the image in an image editor on your computer and save it again. Perhaps lightroom gives some conflicting information within the file about the kind of file it is and the PHP-Fusion image check function will pick that up and consider uploading the image to be a security risk. In the past hackers tried to have virus en worm files masquerading as image files uploaded to sites.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
