Hello to all!
Somehow I overlooked this picture when picking out the Tachinids. About 15mm AFAIR.

19.8.2009, Ecuador, Prov. Tungurahua, Baños, about 1850m asl

@Chris: So there was actually a day when I found more than one Tachinid, within relatively short time. Since you've been to Baños already, maybe you know the trail to the mirador Bellavista, which is above the holy bath. That's where I found both of them.

Lovely fly Grin

I know the route you mention (we stayed at the big hotel by the baths) but I didn't try it myself - looks like I should have though! Grin Instead we tended to explore down the Rio Pastaza valley and look up into the side valleys that come down to the roads. I believe there has been a lot of cutting of forest along those tracks but 15 years ago they were lovely Smile

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
