I found this impressive red-eyed fly in wet land
in the Netherlands, de Wieden, on 18-7-2008.
Is this easy to recognize or are there look-a-likes again?

Sorry, missed the second question.

As long as you are in western Europe and the scutellum is dark, you are fine with Oplodonta viridula.
Note, however, that some Odontomyia have a remarkably similar abdominal pattern (but scutellum partly yellow).

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
