Dolichopus griseipennis male

 Hello,
This *Dolichopodidae* specimen was photographed in the Pyrénées-Orientales (France) at an altitude of 60 m. Its measured length is 5.3 mm. Based on Grichanov's key for males and the following characteristics, I propose *D. notatus*:
- 1 dorsal seta on hind basitarsus
- yellow femora
- pale lower postocular cilia
- all tarsi simple
- hind femur without long ventral fringe
- fore tibia with long apicoventral seta
- antennae not elongated
- Both bends of M1+2 normal, smoothly rounded and without trace of stub-vein
- hind femur with 1 subapical seta
- lower calypter with black cilia
- yellowish face?
- hind tibia black on apical 1/4 to 1/3, somewhat dilated at apex

 It is not D. notatus.
I'd say Dolichopus litorellus.

 Thanks, Igor! Could you please explain why you are ruling out *notatus*? Isn't my specimen (over 5 mm) too large for *litorellus*?

 notatus: Protarse avec 2 chètes dorsaux et 1-2 antérieurs.
Your male has 1 dorsal seta on hind basitarsus.

 Hi André,
I would think this is Dolichopus griseipennis, based on - primarily - the sharp right-angled bend of M1+2 vein, but also the single dorsal bristle on the hind metatarsus, the colour of the antenna and the presence of a fringe of black bristles on the hind femur. To my knowledge, there are only three species of Dolichopus with this kind of bend, i.e., Dolichopus diadema, D. nimbatus and D. griseipennis and the two former differ significantly in other features.
