This fly was seen in in my garden in Aalborg, North Jutland, Denmark on November 11th 2013. I assume it is of the Sepsis genus because of the wing spots, but is an ID to species possible? Thank you Line Sabroe attached the following image: [168.69Kb] Edited by Line Sabroe on 15-01-2014 17:37 Line |

It is indeed a Sepsis, but the female cannot be further determined, I am afraid.

Thank you for the confirmation - Sepsis sp. it is, then.

Hi Ruud, rvanderweele wrote: It is indeed a Sepsis, but the female cannot be further determined, I am afraid. isn't at that time of the year S. fulgens most likely (if not exclusively)? I never see other (bigger, differently coloured) Sepsis sp. from late autumn to earliest spring (at least here in central Europe or more north). I am always very careful with identification of female Sepsidae. I agree that I had S. fulgens in mind as well, but if I am not 100% sure or almost 100% certain, that I rather say Sepsis spec. On this photo I see so few details...... ruud van der weele rvanderweele@gmail.com |
