Hello! I have found some Otites species that I cannot determine. Location was the edge of meadow woods at the Main riverbanks near Frankfurt (Germany) end of April. Can anybody help at the determination? Otites 1 (24.04.2010) - size about 4-5mm: Otites 2 & 3 (24.04.2010) - size about 8mm: Otites 4 (27.04.2010) - size about 8mm: Regards Andreas Edited by Andreas Haselboeck on 14-05-2010 11:05 Andreas Haselboeck Stuttgart / Germany http://www.naturs... |

Otites guttata or centralis (I am not very skilled in the variability of both species and could make mistake without study of genitalia)

Hello Valery, thank you very much. So I think the little one is Otites centralis und the bigger one O. guttata. In one of my books is O. centralis shown off with size 2,5-5mm. Best regards Andreas Andreas Haselboeck Stuttgart / Germany http://www.naturs... |

Lieber Andreas: Nope, the size is highly variable in both species, and according to darker wing pattern, they both look to be O. guttata. However, they differ with certainty only by genitalic characters. What key do you use? Val |
