Today, I found some of these one a breakwater at Wenduine, Belgium. Any help with family/genus/species is greatly appreciated. More pictures and specimen available if needed (I'll try to post some better pictures tomorrow). Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot, Jorge! Probably, it's H. ustulata, the only species known at our coast. I found this thread on Helcomyza and when I look at those pictures... Beautiful!

there is anoither H. mediterranea for iberian countries, at least. In North really it seems to be more easy being only one species.

Oh, you're right Jorge ! I ignored this. Fauna Europea is our friend (seems only recorded from Italy according to FE).

So you are nor of the option that it should be in Dryomyzidae?

Do you mean that Helcomyzidae is wrong and that my fly belongs to Dryomyzidae or are you saying that Helcomyzidae should be included in Dryomyzidae? I read that they are probably closer to Coelopidae.

It's all a matter of opinion, I was wondering where forum members stood on the subject?
