Found on yarrow. 5mm long. Looking through the gallery it looks most like Bibio ferruginatus. Can anyone tell me if this could be correct. Thanks Peter peterbolson attached the following image: [116.91Kb] |

Just noticed - it isn't Bibio - it's Dilophus Most Bibio have a swollen fore tibia and Dilophus have rings of thorns on the fore tibia. Edited by ChrisR on 20-08-2010 20:14 Manager of the UK Species Inventory in the Angela Marmont Centre for UK Biodiversity at the Natural History Museum, London. |

Wing colouration is strongly sexual dimorph.| Females Dilophus febrilis are easy from pic and males hopeless. Nevertheless, any Dilophus is febrilis untill proven otherwise, since it is so common and others are so local and/or rare. Theo |
