Hi,
I found this busy fly on a dead Aspen in a forest. Is it a female Berkshiria hungarica?

Greetings, Marion

Germany, Saxony, ca. 350 m, 23.05.2022.

That would have been nice, but alas ....

It seems to be a female Neopachygaster meromelas, though the tibiae are dark and should be yellow .... ?

Thank you, Theo.
Before the enquiry I did a picture comparison and ended up with Berkshiria hungarica, mainly because of the different antenna shape.
Since the species has been found in Poland, the Czech Republic and in 2013 also in Bavaria, I hoped that it had now arrived in Saxony. What a pity!
How do the species differ? In the gallery, Neopachygaster meromelas has a dark arista and Berkshiria hungarica a white one like my fly. I attach a picture of another fly from the same place with better visible arista.
Best wishes,
Marion

Hi Marion

You are quite right. I totally overlooked the white arista against the white background on my small screen.

This IS Berkshiria indeed. So that is very nice indeed !!

It is already added to the English translation of my Homeodactyla filedguide due to a recent find in Denmark. Clearly, Germany can be added. You should publish this.

Greetings

theo
