Ukraine, Rivne region, on July 3.
In the forest.
Can Panorpa be identified with this photo? Sorry for the quality. I have three options, but I do not know what to choose: Panorpa annexa ?
Panorpa communis ?
Panorpa cognata ?

Yes, of course I will be glad. You can also go to us at UkrBin:

We do not have any specialist in this field and we will be glad to help you in identifying species.

Might well be, though the decisive characters (shape of the hypovalves, shape of the 6th and 7th abdominal segment) cannot clearly be seen. But I think the are hypovalves long and straight and diverge toward tip (compare https://www.jungl..._male.html).

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
