Hello,

I post for a friend from S-E of France.
Pictured between nov. 12th and 22th 2019.
It looks like Epicypta and wing venation remembers E. limnophila
Does it match ?
Specimen available if wanted.
Thanks for help.

Yes, Epicypta. Microscopic examination necessary, often male genitalia, too, for species ID.

Yes, it is a female. One of the couplets in the key allows for ID-ing both males and females. The character that determines whether this species falls in this couplet or the opther (where genitalia are required for species ID) is the number of small setae present on one of the wing veins. If I have the specimen, I can either ID the species or at least narrow it down to a few.

Sorry, I identified them but was not at the computer at the time and forgot to reply. Sceptonia aterrima it is. Two specimens, one of them a male, so that made ID-ing them not too complicated after all.

No problem Paul but you agreed with Epicypta and FE does not know Sceptonia aterrima.

I suppose you meen Epicypta aterrima (Zetterstedt, 1852) ?

Well, you judge for yourself. Not easy on the pictures, but attached a photo of the two sp[ecimens. Male on the left, female on the right.

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
