Hi,
Yesterday I found an interesting but dead gnat on the kitchen window sill. The location is southwestern Germany not far away from Stuttgart.
With the help of http://www.online...ilidae.pdf I got to "R4 ending in R1. Laterotergite hairy" and thus to Keroplatus. In Germany we should have K. testaceus and K. reaumurii, but I found only pictures of the former. They matched my fly quite well, but please confirm or correct my ID - thanks in advance!
Regards, Sundew

Meanwhile I performed intensive literature studies in connection with thread http://www.dipter...d_id=75454 and came to the conclusion that "K. testaceus group" is the best to be said about my animal. The diagnostic characters for the species of the group are the male genitalia (shape of the ventral lobes of the gonostyli), and the possibly overlapping variation in form has not thoroughly been studied yet. Afterwards some species names might become but synonyms.

Nice pictures! Maybe is K. testaceus.

Keroplatus reaumurii larvae are bioluminescent. Their light is blue. They can be found sometimes in tinder fungus or ice man fungus (Fomes fomentarius).

I wrote a "key" here for the two species:
https://diptera.i...d_id=88200

For two of four reasons is more reaumurii, but looking at genitalia is important too
