Dear all! A friend asked me to help with the id of this fly. Some specimen of this species appeared in his botanical experiment. Can you tell me if the species emerge probably from the plant or from the soil? Spain, 02. 2016.

From the soil (or rather algae growing on the soil). Looks like a Scatella species - most probably tenuicosta, but the face is produced more than is normal for that species. I'd be pleased to see a specimen if possible. :)
