Hello,

A Tabanidae found in France, Clairmarais, the 31 july 2014, in a forest
Maybe a Chrysops caecutiens ?

Hello tlegrand,

The legs are entirely black so yes, C. caecutiens. A typical summer species found in forests, usually near streams.

Sorry to disagree, but the abdominal pattern is way off.
The tibiae seem black, but this might be a trick of the pics.
I think the tibiae are reddish.
The abdominal pattern strongly suggests Ch. relictus.
