Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Tachinid flies - cylindromyia

I saw today three tachinid flies, Cylindromyia in the dunes. One on Bramble and two on yarrow. (But at the same place). I hope I can get a name, but I'm afraid it is difficult.

Thanks Chris. That's what I thought. But I wasn't sure about similar species.

Yes, pusilla it is. A male. You can very nicely see the flattened arista (very peculiar feature for the male of this species !)

Thanks for the explanation Theo. Today I saw more flies in the dunes near Egmond. But I hadn't photographed them. Next time I try to find a female.

Nicely spotted Theo - I had missed that but I saw the 'burned' brown inner edge to the calyptrae :)
