Ah.. Thanks Chris. I wasn't sure. I've already photographed this species in 2010, but that one was more shiny dark brown.

Yeah, they can be deceptive in different light. I caught about 8 tachinids recently and thought I had about 4 species ... all were Voria ruralis! I think I need to take my 'reading glasses' into the field with me ;)

Two main problems:

1. Knowing what to look for

2. Seeing it

The first gets easier the older and more experienced you get. The second is the opposite - it gets more difficult with age ;)
