Andre, dear Andre... I'm afraid I must ask how sure you are of this being C. mutabilis.

C. mutabilis is a notable species here, so I decided to pass it by Roger Morris and if it passed the test it would have been a good record. Roger felt certain it was not mutabilis, checking both keys in Stubbs & Falks and Van Veen.

He passed it on to Martin Speight, who feels fairly certain that this is Cheilosia uviformis. I have checked out the specimen on this site, it fits well.

The Hoverfly recording Scheme has very few records of it yet, and this cannot really be taken as a record but it is a probable uviformis.

So, from going from a notable species, we now appear to have one which is a relatively new species here! ;)
