Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Acroceridae - Acrocera sanguinea from serra da Estrela

Hi
This is a new genus for diptera.info.
The wing venation it typical for Paracrocera sp. genus. Is is it possible to recognize the species? I thought in P. orbicula.

I contacted Dr. Evert Schlinger who replied me today.
"(..) the genus Paracrocera is out of date and should be considered the same as Acrocera. As far as the species goes without an actual specimen won't be able to be 100% sure."
more: he says that this Acrocera is very rare and in next week or so he could give a trust ID species. :)
It looks like Gymnosoma of Tachinidae. :)

Finally I got one reliable ID from Dra. Emilia Narchuk: This is an Acrocera sanguinea. (it can be highly variable in colours, mostly they are red. Check the Isidro's Acrocera sanguinea --

Also check soon the Acroceridae gallery for composed photos that shows clearly the differences. You can see the page 2 of the last link to study the differences between the A. sanguinea and A. orbiculus. Both are new for Portugal. An article is on the way.)
NOTES :
* Acrocera trigramma Loew 1845 IS NO longer available. It is a synonym with
Acrocera sanguinea Meigen 1804
** Also Acrocera globula Panzer 1802 is no longer available . It is a synonym with
Acrocera orbiculus Fabricius 1787
*** Paracrocera genus is no longer available and now it is considered as an Acrocera.

Maybe interesting, to get an overview article on Portuguese Acroceridae?
Beautiful species you have. Too bad that I am only there for such short periods...

Well, Jorge, I will be happy to add the photos to the Gallery when you resubmit them with all the correct data. You seriously messed up with references to the forum threads and the corrections you mailed later and photo numbers... I deleted them all because it will be more time consuming to check all and making all corrections compared to re-submission.
