Hello to all, I'm new to this forum, but I have a question I've asked the Birdforum members. Does anyone know what diptera this larva belongs to? They told me it's no of a sawfly. It was filmed in the Camargue (france) in september on a hot day on a dry road, so it's possible that the color derives from the fact that it's covered with dust. I don't know. Hoi Andre, To my opinion this is a larva from a member of the Stratiomyidae, these are the so called soldierflies. I must say that I am not 100 percent sure, but there are members of the genus Stratiomys who have larva that look like this. I can't tell you what species it is, maybe somebody else has an idea! Hi. I'll second Gerard's opinion: it is a Stratiomyid larva. Larvae of this type are usually aquatic, but can survive long times (perhaps even a year) in drier conditions, and leave water for pupation. |
