Hi there,

attracted my attention by the quite loud wing sound it made. Only one shot in focus, how far can it be determined?
Found on a meadow in Lower Austria, mid June

My guesses would be Bombylius or Anastoechus...

Best,
Lorin

Bombylius or Systoechus Wink Anastoechus has a very different head shape Smile And Dischistus is completely ruled out. No chances of any other genus in Austria.

But my guess is Bombylius. I don't know any species of Systoechus with such an abdominal pattern.

Ok, thanks. I will go with Bombylius spec. then.

Best,

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
