Hi,
I found this hoverfly in Uppsala, Sweden. I think it might be a Ceriana, anyone who can confirm (and possibly have an idea of the species) or tell me what it really is?

Best Regards
Malin

That is not a Syrphid (otherwise it would be in the wrong forum), it is a Conopid, a male Conops. According to the key http://home.hccne...enera.html I would vote for C. quadrifasciatus or, perhaps, C. ceriaeformis. In the first picture there seems to be a dark ring on the hind femora, but if it is just a shadow (the middle femora seem to lack it), the first name would be appropriate.
Regards, Sundew

Thank you for the correction and the species!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
