Miltogramminae are kleptoparasites of ground-nesting wasps (they lay eggs in the burrow and maggots eat the wasps' food stores). |

So, what John is saying, it is a Milogramminae. It looks like Miltogramma germari, a species common in the dune area this time of year (and otherwise rare). Theo |

John and Theo, Many thanks for this ID and explanation!! It even id's an other fly we saw the day before that attacted a Bembix rostrata, carrying food to the nest. The fly I saw yesturday really was following the bee for several minutes resting for seconds nearby the flower the bee was feeding on. Here you can find a picture of it.
