Denmark, Fyn (West), near Strip, coastal area, altitude about 25 msm, at the top of a car, nearby fields with maize and a string, Outsidefoto: kuv, 30th of July 2015. Comparing the pictures in the Diptera Gallery I think it could be Hybomitra bimaculata (male). Right? Please help. Kuv kuv attached the following image: [82.93Kb] Edited by kuv on 31-07-2015 08:28 |

To quote George Orwell "All Hybomitras are similar" but it is NOT bimaculata. Could we get a blowup of the head from the first picture ? Thanks Theo |

Thanks for the blow-up. It is not razorsharp, but I think it is safe to conclude that * no long hairs present on first antennal segment * no tuft of long hairs present at vertex So it is montana-group, rather than bimaculata group: Male Hybomitra tropica. Also better fit with the habitat Pretty late in the year, though. Theo |
