thanks a lot, Stephane...one more question... I will attach one abdomen-shot of a Myospila meditabunda, which was confirmed here last month. The dark spots are very different to this fly..is the drawing on the abdomen so variable? It seems that M meditabunda is , according to the Grootaert species list (from 91) the only Myospila which seem to fly around here ....well a M. bimaculata is found on another list as well..( as far as I can read these listings) ..maybe you know about others? Because of the different abdomen..can we exclude M .meditabunda? thanks a lot bums attached the following image: [147.42Kb] |

I can just exclude bimaculata. There is a third species (if it is not a dark form of meditabunda) called alpina. According to Gregor et. al. it would be rather that species (darker scutum and scutellum, wing rather brownish than yellow at base). Unfortunately, we can't see whether it has medial discal on tergites 3 & 4. Personnaly, I wouldn't risk to confirm any male of Myospila (except bimaculata maybe) from a picture. Stephane. |
