Is it possible to say which genus it belongs to? It was caught in a pitfall trap on a seashore. It is 7 mm long.

The last shot suggests that it is a Hydrophoria or Hylemya (plumose arista, unfortunately out of focus in shot 1). The setulose scutellum on most of the surface suggests Hydrophoria. It is a female which makes it more difficult, but it could be Hydrophoria lancifer? |

What can I check on the specimen to confirm that it is Hydrophoria lancifer? |

Its prealar bristle is longer than the posterior notopleural which indicates H. lancifer as far as I understand? |

If the proboscis is shining black, than Hydrophoria lancifer seems right. As Michael already suggest.. Johanna |
