I still try to find out if this is Spilomyia manicata or that it is impossible to ID. Could someone help me?

I tried in Syrphidae forum, but I got no reply... Thanks in advance.

I am not an expert, but I agree with you, it is S. manicata (female).

Henrik

Thank you very much Henrik! Beautiful fly and a new species for our private 'nature-reserve'.

Hello Henrik,

I only today saw that there was an answer on the Syrphidae forum about this fly.

http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=62346

So I decided to keep both options open and hope to see this beautiful fly again this year.

Thank you again,
Tjitske Lubach

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
