Hello,

maybe you can help me to ID this Rhagio sp.

29.05.2014 - North Italy - 800m

farm6.staticflickr.com/5580/14868978059_788f7f6569_z.jpg

I can't see if the pterostigma is entirely dark or yellow and dark. I would say dark ..

Thanks for the help!

Regards,
Marcello

Did you collect it? Just this picture? For the first impression, maybe Rh. annulatus. I will check my collection and literature on Thursday in my museum office.

Sorry, I captured it and then I released it ... btw, I was thinking too at R. annulatus, but:

I don't see the abdomen largely whitish haired. I'm wrong?

In another shot, I can see better the pterostigma, it's transparent/yellow, but I have photos all from the same position.

Thanks for your help!

So, I am in my office with the collection. Valerio is right, it is really R. tringarius. I was confused by much darker color than the Czech specimens have.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
