Hello everyone!

Can somebody help me to identify this fly? I thought it could be Sternorhina lunata. Is it possible?

This fly was sampled in a mango orchard in Réunion Island.

Thanks in advance!

Definitely NO Stomorhina. First, let's settle the correct family. It looks Muscidae rather than Rhiinidae.
Could you check for the presence / absence of hypopleural bristles ?

Hello Theo.

Sorry for the late reply! I have check and there don't seem to be any hypopleural bristles. I am uploading the picture as soon as I can!

Thank you!

Does it have 2+4 dorsocentrals? Could be a Musca. There is a key online for Muscidae of Madagascar that might help.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
