I saw today three tachinid flies, Cylindromyia in the dunes. One on Bramble and two on yarrow. (But at the same place). I hope I can get a name, but I'm afraid it is difficult. Photos 25-6-2014, The Dunes near Bergen, The Netherlands. Regards, Thijs thijsdegraaf attached the following image: [68.56Kb] http://www.tuin-t...engels.htm |

Thanks Chris. That's what I thought. But I wasn't sure about similar species. Regards, Thijs http://www.tuin-t...engels.htm |

Yes, pusilla it is. A male. You can very nicely see the flattened arista (very peculiar feature for the male of this species !) Theo |

Thanks for the explanation Theo. Today I saw more flies in the dunes near Egmond. But I hadn't photographed them. Next time I try to find a female. Regards, Thijs http://www.tuin-t...engels.htm |

Nicely spotted Theo - I had missed that but I saw the 'burned' brown inner edge to the calyptrae
