Black fly - Phorbia moliniaris

Phorbia moliniaris. It's nice to see a pinned specimen with the genitalia exposed.Check that there are 2 ventral apical setae on hind tibia, I think I can see them. As it's nameimplies the larvae feed in the grass stems of Molinia. The females have laterally compressed cerci (sabre-like) so that it can deposit eggs in the stem. |

Thanks a lot for ID and interesting info about the species! Setae on hind tibia is correct. And there are wet areas with a lot of Molinia caerulea at the site. I will try and find a female too to look at. Regards Krister Edited by ebbek on 18-04-2014 10:48 |
