It's the larvae of a Syrphidae, but I can't tell you exactly which species without a closer look at the posterior spiracles (psp). You can tell it is a Syrphidae by the fused posterior spiracles, which is unique for Syrphidae. Furthermore the presence of these white markings, the overall color of the body (which in this case is translucent white), the absence of dorsal projections on the body gives you an idea about a genus. But without a detailed study under the binoculair of the psp I can only guess. It resembles a Syrphinae (Episyrphus, Syrphus). If suggest you buy Rotheray, G. (1993). Colour guide to hoverfly larvae. Dipterist Digest 9. If it's the same garden as the pupae you submitted, then maybe again Episyrphus balteatus? |
