Hello,

for nearly 15 years I am photographing insects now, and from the Diptera subfamily Phasiinae I have got most. Espsecially from the namespending genus Phasia I've got P. hemiptera, aurigera, barbifrons, obesa and even the rather scarce aurulans.
But although it should not be very rare and is posted often here and in other forums I have never found one single Ectophasia throughout all the 15 years. Until last Saturday I think...

Is it correct, that the 6 mm fly below on a mint plant at a blackberry hedge (northwest Germany) belongs to Ectophasia crassipennis? Male or female?

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
